Best Cash Back Credit Cards With No Annual Fee (2026)

By O.B. · As of September 10, 2026

This page uses “best” in one narrow way: the highest rate the issuer publishes. It is not a ranking or a recommendation. We do not tell anyone to get, keep, cancel, or apply for a card. We take no commission from card companies. Every rate below links to the issuer’s own page so you can check it.

If you want to inspect recurring card credits instead of spending rates, use the card comparison tool. The separate credit card benefits tools page has the site’s other card tools.

The catch the rate pages don’t lead with

  • Discover it and Chase Freedom Flex: you must activate every quarter, and the 5% stops after $1,500 that quarter. Discover and Chase publish those conditions.
  • U.S. Bank Cash+: you must choose and activate two 5% categories every quarter. Their combined cap is $2,000; if you do not choose, purchases earn 1%. U.S. Bank terms.
  • Bank of America Customized Cash: you choose one category and can change it once a month. The $2,500 quarterly cap is combined across the 3% and 2% tiers. Bank of America terms.
  • Amex Blue Cash Everyday: the $6,000 cap is per category per year, then the rate drops to 1%. The card has a 2.7% foreign transaction fee. Amex terms.
  • U.S. Bank Smartly: the headline bonus needs a banking relationship. U.S. Bank terms.
  • Citi Double Cash: the second 1% arrives only when you pay. Citi terms.

Says cash back, pays points

Citi Double Cash pays ThankYou Points. Citi says 10,000 points equal a $100 statement credit. That is Citi’s stated rate, not our valuation. U.S. Bank Smartly pays 2 Points per dollar, and U.S. Bank notes that other redemptions may use a reduced redemption rate. Chase quotes Freedom cards in percentages, but its own terms are headed “Cash Back And Points.” We do not put a dollar value on any points.

Discover’s 5% calendar

Verified on Discover’s own calendar on September 10, 2026: October 1 through December 31, 2026 is Restaurants, Entertainment, and Utilities, at 5% on up to $1,500, with activation required.

  • January through March: grocery stores, wholesale clubs, and select streaming.
  • April through June: restaurants and home improvement stores.
  • July through September: gas stations, transportation, and drug stores.

What we could not verify

Capital One Quicksilver’s foreign transaction fee and any Capital One Travel bonus rate: the benefits block was client-rendered and returned empty. Citi’s foreign purchase fee percentages on both Citi cards: rendered client-side. Discover’s foreign transaction fee: the word “foreign” appears zero times on the product pages. Wells Fargo Attune: we found no public product page and no apply path, so we excluded it rather than guess. Amex Cash Magnet and Amex EveryDay: no longer in Amex’s own card lineup, so we excluded them.

We also left off cards that pay points or miles rather than cash back, even when other sites include them: Capital One VentureOne, Citi Strata, Wells Fargo Autograph, Bank of America Travel Rewards, U.S. Bank Altitude Connect and Altitude Go, Discover it Miles, and Bilt Blue.
