SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE

Social Security's New Online Disability Tools: Check Your Claim Status

Social Security added new disability tools to my Social Security on July 21, 2026. They may help you see where a pending claim or appeal stands without waiting on the phone.

What you can do online

SSA says people with a pending disability claim, appeal, or recently decided claim can use the Claim Status Tracker at the Hearings and Appeals levels. It shows status updates, estimated processing time, and key milestones. You can also submit three disability forms online: Recent Medical Treatment (HA-4631), Medication Information (HA-4632), and Work Background (HA-4633).

SSA also added access to proffer letters and 26 hearing-related notices in the Message Center. Paper notices will still be mailed to claimants and their representatives.

Who can use these tools

You need a personal my Social Security account. The disability status tool applies to people with a pending disability claim, appeal, or recently adjudicated claim at the Hearings and Appeals levels, according to SSA's announcement.

What still needs a call or visit

These tools do not replace every Social Security service. If you cannot use the website, need help with a service not available in your account, or need in-person help, SSA says to call its National 800 Number or your local office and make an appointment when needed. The new tracker does not decide a claim or change eligibility.

Simple next steps

  1. Create or sign in to your my Social Security account.
  2. Open the Claim Status Tracker if you have a pending disability case.
  3. Read new notices in the Message Center and respond by the deadline in the notice.
  4. Call SSA or your local office if you need help that is not available online.
