Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Chase Sapphire Preferred: every perk, verified and dated

Every benefit below is checked against Chase's own pages, dated, and never shaped by affiliate revenue. We take no commission from any card issuer, so the math has no reason to flatter the card.

Benefit data is extracted from Chase's own published pages by our automated pipeline; line items trace to the Chase Sapphire Preferred card page (creditcards.chase.com/rewards-credit-cards/sapphire/preferred), except the referral bonus, which is on Chase's Refer-A-Friend page (creditcards.chase.com/refer-a-friend). Every line was re-read on those pages on October 12, 2026. By O.B., Founder.

Is it actually worth $95? Find yourself below.

The annual fee is $95. Unlike a credits-heavy premium card, the Sapphire Preferred's value comes from a small number of easy credits plus a points engine on travel and dining. Whether it pays off depends far less on coupon discipline and far more on whether you book travel through Chase and spend in its bonus categories. Here's the honest math for three kinds of cardholder.

The credits-and-DoorDash cardholder

Two benefits return real dollars with almost no effort. The Annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit gives up to $100 in statement credits each account anniversary year, applied automatically when you pay with the card for a hotel stay booked through Chase Travel (Chase's terms), and the DoorDash benefit includes a $10 monthly promo ($120/year) plus a complimentary DashPass membership. If you book even one hotel a year through Chase and use the monthly DoorDash promos, that's $100 + $120 = $220 in credits against the $95 fee — a net of +$125 a year before earning a single point. We don't bank the DashPass dollar value ($120) because it only matters if you'd order delivery anyway.

Credits used in full: +$125/year net, before points.

The travel-and-dining spender

The card earns 5x on travel booked through Chase Travel; 3x on dining, gas stations, EV charging, vacation homes at top brands, top streaming services and online groceries (excluding Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs); 2x on all other travel; and 1x on all other purchases (Chase's rates). We don't put a single dollar figure on the earn rate because it depends on spend and how you redeem, but for context: $1,000/month on dining alone is 36,000 points a year at 3x, and points can be transferred to travel partners such as World of Hyatt, United MileagePlus and Southwest Rapid Rewards. Stack that on the +$125 credit math and the card clears its fee comfortably for anyone who travels and eats out.

Travel-and-dining spender: +$125 on credits, with 5x/3x points as additional return.

The set-and-forget cardholder

If you never book hotels through Chase Travel and don't order DoorDash, the two easy credits go uncaptured. You're left with the points engine and the travel protections — valuable if you put real spend on the card, but if it mostly sits in a drawer you're paying $95 for protections you rarely trigger. The Sapphire Preferred rewards using it, not holding it.

Holder who won't use the credits or categories: roughly −$95/year.

The dollar credits, checked against Chase's own page

These are the benefits that return a fixed dollar value, rendered straight from our verified data. Each links to the issuer's own page. The two easy credits sum to $220/year against the $95 fee; credits that don't pay out every year are listed below the total with their real cadence.

Points and earn rates (value depends on spend)

These earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points rather than a fixed credit, so their value depends on how much you spend and how you redeem. We list the verified rates without inventing a dollar figure.

New York residents: Chase lists narrower terms. Auto rental coverage inside the U.S. is secondary to your personal auto insurance, purchase protection lasts 90 days, and lost luggage is limited to $2,000 per bag and $10,000 for all covered travelers per trip (Chase's terms).

The gotchas — what the headline value hides

  • The hotel credit only works through Chase Travel. It applies to a hotel booked in the Chase Travel portal and paid with the card — not to a hotel you book directly or through another site. If you never use the portal, the credit is worth $0.
  • DoorDash promos are use-it-or-lose-it. The $10 monthly promo covers one non-restaurant order a month and doesn't roll over; any part of the $10 you don't use on that order is forfeited. Chase lists the promo through December 31, 2029, and DashPass must be activated by that date (Chase's terms). Miss a month and that $10 is gone.
  • 5x travel is Chase-Travel-only. The headline 5x rate applies to travel booked through Chase Travel; travel booked elsewhere earns 2x. The two are easy to confuse.
  • 3x groceries excludes the big stores. Online grocery earns 3x, but Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs are explicitly excluded — exactly where many people buy groceries.
  • Point value is not guaranteed. Ultimate Rewards points are worth more transferred to travel partners than redeemed for cash; a casual redeemer may get far less than the "5x" headline implies.

What we left out of the tables — and why

  • The welcome offer. Chase Sapphire Preferred runs a points welcome bonus for new cardholders with a minimum-spend requirement. Because welcome offers change without notice, we don't put a dollar figure on it or treat it as a verified line — check Chase's current terms at the time you'd apply.
  • A single dollar value for points. Chase's rewards terms say redemption values vary by reward option; any one valuation would be a guess, so we describe the earn rates instead.
  • Promotional category multipliers (Peloton, Lyft). These are real but time-limited (current end dates noted in the table) and narrow, so we don't fold them into the worth-it math.
  • Payment features. Chase's page also lists Spend Instantly (add the card to a digital wallet, like Apple Pay, and use it the same day) and Chase Pay Over Time, which Chase describes as two ways to pay over time. After purchase: an eligible purchase of $100 or more can be paid off in smaller, equal monthly payments, with "No Interest- just a fixed monthly fee" and plan durations that range from 3-24 months. At checkout on Amazon.com: cardmembers may have the option to create a payment plan on orders of $50 or more, and Chase says you will see the plan options "(including the fixed APR and durations)" at checkout. Chase also says access to Chase Pay Over Time is not guaranteed (Chase's terms). They are ways to pay, not perks with a value, so they're not in the tables.

How we built this page

Every benefit above is extracted from Chase's own published Sapphire Preferred pages by our automated pipeline, stored with its source link, and dated. We take no commission from any card issuer and link to no application offers, so nothing on this page is shaped by what a card company pays us — because none pays us anything. If a number here is wrong, it's because Chase changed their page or our pipeline misread it; either way, our methodology explains how to check, and the source links let you verify every line yourself.

Corrected October 12, 2026: we re-checked every line against Chase's pages. The Chase Travel hotel credit had been shown inconsistently; it is now $100 everywhere, matching Chase, and the credit totals were recalculated. We also moved the DoorDash dates to December 31, 2029; added the 3x gas, EV charging and vacation-home categories, the Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS and Apple TV credits, the Peloton promotion and the protections Chase lists that were missing; and removed a 10% anniversary points bonus that Chase's page no longer lists and a transfer ratio we could not confirm on Chase's page. Updated August 2, 2026: our annual totals now exclude percentage-back offers and multi-year credits, which are listed separately with their real cadence. This lowers some totals and reflects money you can actually collect in a single year.
